Like any good classic cocktail, there are many variations on the original Manhattan recipe. Although the exact date of this recipe alteration is unrecorded, it is believed that the Perfect Manhattans began appearing on cocktail menus only a few years after the creation of The Manhattan. The Perfect Manhattan calls for balanced proportions of sweet and dry vermouth. The addition of dry vermouth mellows out the sweetness while adding an interesting herbal layer.
